Enlighten Holiday Party Excuse Generator For Those Parties You Want To Skip

ANN ARBOR – Don’t want to attend that Holiday party this year but can’t think up a good enough excuse getting out of it? Interactive marketing company Enlighten has got you covered with its online Holiday Party Excuse Generator.

The interactive invitation, created by the elves at Enlighten, provides 268 million different possibilities for backing out of that party you never wanted to attend anyway. A series of menu selections, starting with the first field, “What type of party is it?” provides some surprising RSVPs.

“We generally try to do some interactive holiday greetings for friends and clients each year,’’ said Enlighten Founder Steve Glauberman. “And we believe that humor and irreverence is more effective than a fruit cake.”

Glauberman said a few months ago, his staff was brainstorming on what they could come up with for the 2005 Holiday season. A Holiday Party Excuse Generator percolated to the top of the suggestion box.

“It had some good viral marketing aspects,’’ Glauberman said. “We figured we could play around with the writing and have some fun, add some fun animation. It’s really taken off.”

Indeed. On December 15th, Enlighten’s Holiday Party Excuse Generator was awarded the Macromedia Site of the Day. The honor recognizes web sites that make the most innovative uses of Macromedia’s Flash technology.

As a result, visitors from 86 countries and every inhabited continent have generated reasons for not attending that Holiday party. People spend about 10 minutes each at the site. Some surf over to the Enlighten corporate web site.

“We could do a marketing piece at any point in the year to showcase our expertise,’’ Glauberman said. “The primary purpose of our Holiday Party Excuse Generator is to wish happy holidays to our friends and colleagues.”
