Detroit To Host International District Export Councils Conference In October

DETROIT - North America's premier international trade event is coming to Detroit. Some 600 business leaders, entrepreneurs and government officials will gather at the Marriott Renaissance from October 24-27 seeking to stimulate the economy and create high paying jobs by boosting exports and expanding international trade.

Exports, which totaled $1.3 trillion nationwide and $45 billion in Michigan in 2008, are crucial to job creation and economic growth. More than one-quarter of all manufacturing workers in Michigan depend on exports for their jobs.

Conference participants will share their firsthand insights and knowledge of how companies can enhance their global export competitiveness and further strengthen our nation's position as the world's leading innovator and producer of green technologies.

The East Michigan District Export Council (EMDEC) will host the "2010 International District Export Councils Conference: Capitalizing on America's Export Advantages in Green and Innovation."

According to EMDEC Chairman Terry Kalley, "Our team worked long and hard to bring this Conference to Southeast Michigan. Its presence is a real coup for our region. Increased exports and expanded international trade are crucial elements in restoring the Michigan and national economy and creating the high paying jobs we need. This Conference is a vital opportunity to remind the larger national business community that Detroit is the gateway to Canada, our largest trading partner."

The District Export Council (DEC) is a volunteer organization of business leaders from across the U.S. seeking to promote international trade and encourage exports. DEC's provide expertise to small & medium enterprises in their exporting activities. DEC Members are appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce which supports over 109 U.S. Commercial Service’s Export Assistance Centers in 77 countries worldwide. There are over 60 DEC's located throughout the U.S.

Kalley is the President/CEO of Bright Solutions, International LLC of Troy, Michigan. The Conference will include a full schedule of exclusive receptions, conference sessions, field trips, education sessions and networking events.
