Google Exec: Mobile Internet Now Fastest Growing Media Ever
|
| DETROIT – The head of Google's enterprise sales says there are three major trends developing in computing today – Consumer technology is racing ahead on a 10-year growth path; Cloud computing is creating massive virtual data centers for both consumers and business; the mobile Internet has become the fastest growth media ever.
Michael Lock, vice president of Enterprise Sales for Google was a keynote speaker at the Midwest Technology Leaders conference at the MGM Grand Hotel. He said the trend to access devices when not at your desk is a big trend today. Mobile computing also is more enabled than desktop computing.
"Mobile will be the main computing device in three to four years," he predicted.
The devices driving these changes are the iPhone and the iPad, he said. While the Blackberry phone is very popular among business road warriors, the device will be constrained by the limited amount of applications available.
But all the data created by and for these devices will reside in the cloud, cutting costs dramatically. And despite the reports to the contrary, Lock said the cloud is very secure.
He also said come fall 2010, Google will announce some hardware devices that use the Chrome operating system, flash memory, wireless connections, no hard drive, "which will have a huge impact on corporate IT."
All these changes will bring consumer pricing to the corporate market.
