Federal Stimulus Reform Topic Of Healthcare Conference Nov. 2-3

GRAND RAPIDS - The 2009 annual Healthcare Information Management Systems Society Midwest conference will be held at Amway Grand Plaza November 2 - 3 to focus on the role and responsibility of healthcare IT within the federal stimulus reform.

Industry leaders will discuss the incorporation of healthcare IT provisions in the legislation and the impact of BILL NUMBER 5555 on the healthcare IT industry with Greater Chicago, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin HIMSS Chapter members and guests.

"The HIMSS conference will educate on current trends within the healthcare IT industry while also addressing the HITECH Act within the Stimulus Plan," said Alicia Brown, RelWare president and CEO and Michigan HIMSS corporate member.

Patrick O'Hare, Sr. VP & CIO of Spectrum Health System, will welcome attendees with opening remarks and participate in the Government/Communal Action panels on Tuesday, November 2nd. Grand Rapids Mayor, George Heartwell, will be on hand Wednesday morning, November 3rd to exchange views on Grand Rapid's approach to healthcare and how it relates to communities across the Midwest.

Keynote speakers on November 2nd include: John D. Halamka, MD, MS, Chief Information Officer of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Chief Information Officer of Harvard Medical School, Chairman of the New England Healthcare Exchange Network (NEHEN), Chair of the US Healthcare Information Technology Standards Panel (HITSP), co-Chair of the HIT Standards Committee, and a practicing Emergency Physician who will address, "Connecting Patients, Payers, & Providers: Foundation For Health Care Reform" and Judy Murphy, Vice President - IS Applications at Aurora Health Care in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who will cover, "10 Steps to Creating your Roadmap to EHR Meaningful Use."

A special Physician's keynote breakfast and track on November 3rd provides physicians the opportunity to earn a maximum of 12.5 credits AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.

A social mixer is scheduled for Sunday evening, November 1st on the 3rd floor of The B.O.B.
