Blue Care Network VP Named Premier 100 IT Leader For 2009

DETROIT - IDG's Computerworld Magazine has honored Janet MacQueen, vice president and chief information officer of Blue Care Network of Michigan, for her outstanding achievements in the field of information technology. Computerworld Magazine selected MacQueen from more than 1,000 nominations as one of the nationā's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2009.
"I am very honored to be recognized on a national level," MacQueen said. "I love IT because it's so logical and because frankly, without IT, most organizations cannot run their business effectively."
The Dec. 8, 2008, issue of the magazine features MacQueen on Page 44.
In the article, MacQueen says her most valuable career advice is: "Be bold." Her leadership philosophy is, "Empower people to solve problems at the most junior level in the organization, hold staff accountable for their decisions, reward excellence, coach, counsel, give second chances and remove poor performers. Hire great people, give them goals and get out of the way!"
Computerworld Magazine accepts annual award nominations from those involved in the IT field such as vendors, marketing professionals and IT users. A panel of Computerworld Magazine editors and outside judges evaluated questionnaires submitted by nominees in June and July to determine the 10th annual award honorees.
Computerworld Magazine defines a premier IT leader as "someone who guides the effective use of information technology to improve his company's business performance."
"IT is essential to the success of the Blues, and it makes us very proud to be an integral part of that success and to contribute to our mission as a nonprofit health care company," MacQueen said. "Being given this award means that the Blues have many wonderful, smart, dedicated and committed employees. I am only successful because I have the best staff."
MacQueen holds a master's degree in business administration from Michigan State University and a bachelor's degree from Wayne State University.
Blue Care Network of Michigan and its subsidiaries have more than 640,000 members. Blue Care Network features award-winning disease management programs and the largest HMO network of physicians and hospitals in the state, with more than 4,300 primary care physicians, 10,200 specialists and 116 hospitals. Blue Care Network, a nonprofit corporation, is the affiliated HMO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
